Later Years
Available in DVD

This program contains excerpts from seven narrative interviews
with elderly women. Each interview is followed by brief
reflections from a small team that has observed the interview.
These women, in their eighties and nineties, have the opportunity to
share stories about loved ones whom they have lost.
They tell
us about how they maintain their relationships with these people who
were anxious about having a conversation with someone who has a
specialty in bereavement and at the next meeting of their group they
unanimously voiced pleased they were that we did not focus on
bereavement. This is an alternative kind of conversation that
offers a more positive focus on grief and loss. |
Important Discussions Toward the End of Life: A conversation
with Father TimeAvailable in
DVD Only
 |
In an interview with a man who is battling several terminal
illnesses, Lorraine addresses his struggle. he tells her that
he has cheated death a number of times and that he is due to have a
conversation with, "Father Time". Through questions about his
many important relations ships, she describes how we are all members
of a club of life. When we are no longer physically present we
can still maintain or membership status through those with whom we
have loving connections. Identity is seen as relational
instead of residing in an individual, leading to other ways to think
about death and the power of life affirming legacy. |
